10 Rainy Day Activities in East Yorkshire the Whole Family Will Love
When the rain is hammering down and the kids are bouncing off the walls, you need a plan. Fortunately, East Yorkshire has plenty of indoor options that will keep the whole family entertained. Here are our top 10.
1. The Deep, Hull
The UK's only submarium is always a winner. With over 3,500 fish across multiple exhibits, the journey from the Rivers of the World to the Slime exhibit keeps children mesmerised. Top tip: go after 2pm when it's quieter.
2. Treasure House, Beverley
This hidden gem combines a museum, art gallery, and library under one roof. The children's activity area offers free craft sessions on Saturdays, and the local history exhibits are surprisingly engaging for older kids.
3. Jump Arena, Hull
When they need to burn energy, Hull's trampoline park is the answer. With over 100 interconnected trampolines, a foam pit, and a dodgeball arena, even teenagers will be entertained.
4. Streetlife Museum, Hull
Step back in time at this free museum in Hull's Museum Quarter. The Victorian street scene, complete with a real horse-drawn carriage, is a favourite with younger children.
5. Pottery Painting Cafes
Both Hull and Beverley have excellent pottery painting cafes where the whole family can get creative. Sessions typically last 1-2 hours and you take your masterpiece home after it's been fired.
6. Hull Ice Arena
Ice skating is brilliant fun whatever the weather. Family sessions run throughout the day, and skate hire is included in the ticket price. Penguin skating aids are available for younger children.
7. Hollywood Bowl, Kingswood
Ten-pin bowling is a reliable family favourite. Hull's Hollywood Bowl has bumper rails for little ones and a decent cafe for parents who need coffee.
8. East Riding Leisure Centres
Most leisure centres have soft play areas alongside their swimming pools. Beverley Leisure Centre and East Riding Leisure Centre in Driffield are particularly good options.
9. Hull Central Library
The children's section is brilliant, with regular storytelling sessions, rhyme times, and holiday activities — all completely free.
10. Bridlington Spa
Check the events listing for family shows, cinema screenings, and workshops. The cafe overlooking the sea is lovely even on a rainy day.
Whatever the weather, East Yorkshire has you covered. Save this list for the next time the forecast looks grim!
