Hull Fly-Tippers Prosecuted and Ordered to Pay Over £3,000

Two Hull residents have been prosecuted for fly-tipping offences and ordered to pay a combined total of over £3,000 in fines and costs at Hull Magistrates' Court.

The cases are the latest in Hull City Council's ongoing crackdown on illegal waste dumping across the city.

Case One

A 34-year-old man from east Hull was found guilty of dumping household waste, including furniture and bags of rubbish, in an alleyway off Holderness Road. CCTV footage captured him unloading items from a van in the early hours of the morning.

He was fined £800, ordered to pay £528 in costs, and £200 in compensation — totalling £1,528.

Case Two

A 28-year-old woman from west Hull pleaded guilty to abandoning waste in a residential street. Investigators traced the waste back to her through personal documents found among the dumped items.

She was fined £600, ordered to pay £480 in costs, and £440 in compensation — totalling £1,520.

Council Response

Hull City Council's environmental crime team has stepped up enforcement action in 2026, with:

  • New CCTV cameras installed at known fly-tipping hotspots
  • A dedicated enforcement team investigating reports within 48 hours
  • Community clear-up days organised in partnership with local residents

Councillor Mark Sherwood said: "Fly-tipping is an environmental crime that blights communities and costs taxpayers money to clean up. We will continue to prosecute offenders and seek the strongest penalties the courts allow."

Anyone who witnesses fly-tipping is encouraged to report it via the Hull City Council website or by calling 01482 300300.
