Hallgate Tavern Cottingham Undergoes Major £350k Refurbishment

The Hallgate Tavern in Cottingham has reopened following a major £350,000 refurbishment that transforms it into a premium sports pub with state-of-the-art technology.

The pub, one of Cottingham's most popular venues, closed for three weeks for the renovation work and has reopened with a completely new look and concept.

The Transformation

The refurbishment includes:

  • 12 large-screen TVs and two giant projector screens for live sport
  • A new 'Grandstand' viewing area with tiered seating overlooking the main screen
  • Completely redesigned interior with modern fixtures and comfortable booth seating
  • New outdoor terrace with heated seating and additional screens
  • Upgraded sound system for live music events

New Menu

The Hallgate has also launched a new "Match Day Menu" featuring:

  • Gourmet burgers and loaded fries
  • Stone-baked pizzas
  • Sharing platters designed for groups watching sport
  • An expanded craft beer selection with 8 rotating guest taps

Why the Investment?

Pub operator Greene King invested in the refurbishment to meet growing demand for premium sports viewing experiences outside of the home.

General manager Chris Taylor said: "We've created something really special here. You can watch the game in HD on a massive screen, with great food and a brilliant atmosphere. It's miles better than watching at home on your own."

Community Response

Early reviews from regulars have been positive. Regular customer and Cottingham resident Steve Marshall said: "I was a bit nervous about the changes, but they've done a fantastic job. It still feels like a proper pub, just with much better facilities."

The Hallgate Tavern is open daily from 11am. Booking is recommended for major sporting events.
