Hallgate Tavern Cottingham Undergoes Major £350k Refurbishment
The Hallgate Tavern on Hallgate in Cottingham has reopened following a major £350,000 refurbishment that has transformed the popular village pub into a "Grandstand" sports destination with state-of-the-art screens, a completely redesigned interior and a brand new food offering. The investment, carried out by the pub's operator, saw the venue closed for three weeks while builders, electricians and designers worked to create what management describes as the premier sports pub in East Yorkshire.
The centrepiece of the refurbishment is a new sports viewing area featuring a giant LED screen measuring over four metres wide, complemented by 14 additional high-definition screens positioned throughout the pub to ensure every seat has a clear view of the action. A new surround-sound system has been installed, and the pub now offers dedicated audio zones so that different sports can be shown simultaneously without sound bleed. The technology package also includes high-speed wi-fi throughout and USB charging points at every table.
Alongside the technology upgrades, the Hallgate Tavern has introduced a new Match Day Menu designed to be served quickly during half-time intervals and between fixtures. The menu features pub classics including gourmet burgers, loaded fries, sharing platters and stone-baked pizzas, all prepared in a newly fitted commercial kitchen. The pub's existing cask ale offering has been retained and expanded, with six hand pulls now serving a rotating selection of beers from Yorkshire breweries including Great Newsome, Atom Beers and Wold Top.
Pub manager Darren Fletcher said the response from regulars and new customers since reopening had been "absolutely fantastic." "Cottingham has always been a great pub village, and we wanted to offer something really special for sports fans without losing the welcoming, community feel that the Hallgate has always had," he said. "Whether you're coming in to watch the rugby league, the football or the cricket, we want this to be the place everyone thinks of first." The pub has already taken bookings for several major sporting events, including the upcoming Six Nations fixtures and the start of the Super League season.
