The Maltings Care Home Opens in Bridlington After £8 Million Investment

A building that stood as an unfinished shell for several years has been transformed into one of East Yorkshire's finest care facilities, as The Maltings officially opened its doors in Bridlington following an £8 million investment.

The 59-bed care home on Jewison Lane near Sewerby welcomed professionals and dignitaries on Thursday 6 March before opening to the community on Friday 7 March, with its first residents due to move in on Sunday 9 March. The opening marks a significant milestone for Fisher Care Group, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year having been founded in 1986.

The Maltings offers residential, dementia and respite care, and has been designed to the highest modern standards. Every one of its 59 rooms is en-suite and air-conditioned, and the facility boasts an orangery, bistro dining area with a bar, cinema room, hair salon and beautifully landscaped gardens.

Rescued from abandonment

The building had been left incomplete by a previous developer and had become something of a local eyesore, with residents expressing frustration at the abandoned construction site on the edge of Sewerby. Fisher Care Group acquired the site and invested heavily in completing and fitting out the building to its own specifications.

"When we first saw this building, we knew it had incredible potential," said a Fisher Care Group spokesperson. "It was a shame to see it sitting there unfinished. We've poured everything into making it a home that we're truly proud of — somewhere that residents and their families can feel confident about."

Creating 100 local jobs

The opening of The Maltings has created approximately 100 jobs in the Bridlington area, a significant boost to the local economy. Positions range from care assistants and nursing staff to catering, housekeeping and administrative roles, with recruitment having taken place throughout early 2026.

"Good jobs in care are so important for a town like Bridlington," said local councillor Liz Sherwood. "This isn't just a care home opening — it's a major investment in our community that will benefit residents, families and the local workforce."

Cutting-edge technology

One of the standout features of The Maltings is its use of Silver Shield assistive monitoring technology, which helps staff keep residents safe while preserving their dignity and independence. The system uses discreet sensors rather than intrusive cameras, alerting care staff to potential issues such as falls or unusual movement patterns.

The home operates on an all-inclusive fee structure, meaning that families know exactly what they will pay without hidden extras for activities, laundry or refreshments. This transparency has been welcomed by families navigating the often complex landscape of care home fees.

A vote of confidence in Bridlington

The £8 million investment represents a major vote of confidence in Bridlington and the wider East Yorkshire coast. With an ageing population and growing demand for high-quality care places, the opening of The Maltings addresses a genuine need in the community.

Fisher Care Group, which operates several homes across Yorkshire, has a reputation for quality care and has received consistently positive ratings from the Care Quality Commission. The group said it was committed to maintaining those standards at The Maltings and to becoming an integral part of the Bridlington community.

For families looking for care options in East Yorkshire, The Maltings is now accepting enquiries. Tours of the facility can be arranged by contacting the home directly.
