Major Road Improvements Set to Transform Everthorpe's High and Low Roads

Road Improvement Project Overview

Residents of Everthorpe, a village near South Cave, can expect significant upgrades to their local roads as East Riding of Yorkshire Council launches a £500,000 improvement scheme. Beginning on Tuesday, April 7, the project will focus on High Road and Low Road, enhancing both road surfaces and drainage systems to mitigate flooding risks.

Phased Construction Schedule

The project will unfold in two phases over approximately 20 weeks, with the first phase commencing on Low Road. This initial stage is expected to last nine weeks, weather permitting, and will involve closing the road from the junction of High Road/Low Road to Everthorpe Lane. During this period, traffic will be diverted via Low Road, Sands Lane, Station Road, and Everthorpe Lane.

Phase two will kick off on Monday, June 1, and is expected to take 11 weeks to complete. This phase will see road closures from the junction of High Road/Low Road to Sands Lane, with diversions in place along High Road, Everthorpe Lane, Station Road, and Sands Lane.

Improvements to Drainage and Road Safety

The primary objective of the scheme is to strengthen existing road structures through patching and reconstruction. Additionally, extensive drainage improvements will be implemented to reduce surface water flooding, benefiting both the roads and surrounding properties.

Councillor Paul West, the council’s cabinet member for environment and transport, emphasized the importance of these upgrades. “These improvements need to be carried out to upgrade the road surfaces and drainage to reduce the risk of flooding on local roads and to properties,” he stated.

Impact on Local Residents and Businesses

While the council aims to maintain vehicle access for residents and businesses throughout the construction period, temporary restrictions are inevitable. Advance notifications will be provided to those affected, ensuring that residents and traders are kept informed.

Access will remain for bin collections, deliveries, and emergency services, while pedestrian access will also be accommodated, albeit with some footpath diversions in effect at times. Local residents, business owners, and drivers are encouraged to exercise patience and follow all instructions and diversions during this period.

Conclusion

The upcoming road improvement project in Everthorpe represents a significant investment in local infrastructure, aimed at enhancing safety and reducing flooding risks. As work begins next week, the community is urged to stay informed and prepared for the changes ahead, which promise to bring long-term benefits to the area.
