Iconic Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition Returns to Sewerby Hall

Wildlife Photography Exhibition at Sewerby Hall

The much-anticipated Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition is set to return to Sewerby Hall and Gardens in Bridlington on Saturday, May 9, running until Sunday, July 19. This world-renowned exhibition, now in its sixty-first year, features stunning images of wildlife that highlight the beauty and diversity of our planet.

A Visual Journey Through Nature

Housed at Sewerby Hall, the exhibition offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience powerful and captivating images that showcase hidden animal behaviors and remarkable species from across the globe. The photographs are on loan from the Natural History Museum in London and aim to inspire audiences to advocate for the protection of our natural environment.

With over 60,000 entries submitted by photographers of all ages and experience levels from 113 countries, the competition showcases the creativity and technical excellence of the field. An international panel of experts judged the entries, ensuring that only the most remarkable works are displayed.

Celebrating the People’s Choice

This year, the People’s Choice award was won by Josef Stefan for his striking image titled Flying Rodent, which captures an Iberian lynx playfully tossing its rodent prey into the air. This award highlights the engaging and emotive power of photography, bringing attention to the animals and ecosystems that need our protection.

Local Impact and Cultural Significance

Councillor Nick Coultish, cabinet member for culture, leisure, and tourism at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, expressed excitement about the exhibition's return. He stated, “The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition is a powerful reminder of the beauty and fragility of our natural world. We are proud to present this iconic exhibition at Sewerby Hall and Gardens, where it invites visitors to connect with wildlife in a meaningful and thought-provoking way.”

This event not only enriches the cultural landscape of East Yorkshire but also encourages local residents to engage with nature and conservation efforts.
