Film Company Founders Launch The Hull Studio Media Hub
A new creative industries hub has opened in Hull, offering media companies, agencies and freelancers access to professional production facilities in the heart of the city. The Hull Studio, located within the Maltings development on Silvester Street, has been founded by a team of film-makers who have spent over a decade producing content for clients across the north of England and wanted to create a permanent base for the region's growing creative sector.
The facility includes a fully equipped film and photography studio with green-screen capabilities, a podcast recording suite, editing suites with industry-standard post-production software, and co-working spaces designed for creative professionals. The founders have invested in cinema-grade lighting and sound equipment, making the space suitable for commercial productions, corporate videos, independent film projects and live-streamed events. Meeting rooms and a screening area are also available for hire.
The launch event, attended by representatives from Hull City Council, the University of Hull's School of Arts and the Humber region's creative network, highlighted the growing importance of the creative industries to the local economy. Recent figures from the Hull and East Yorkshire Creative Industries Forum suggest the sector now supports more than 3,000 jobs in the area, with demand for high-quality production space consistently outstripping supply. Co-founder Rachel Sheridan said: "Hull has an incredible pool of creative talent, but until now many of them have had to travel to Leeds or Manchester to access proper studio facilities. We want to change that."
The Hull Studio has already secured partnerships with several local businesses and plans to offer subsidised studio time to students and recent graduates from the University of Hull and Hull College. The founders are also in discussions with Screen Yorkshire about positioning the facility as a location base for television and film productions shooting in the region, building on Hull's growing reputation as a filming destination following several high-profile BBC and Channel 4 productions in recent years.
