Hull Firms Invest £600k in Greener Future
Two Hull-based companies have made a combined investment of over £600,000 in a new environmentally focused headquarters that showcases the city's growing commitment to green business practices.
GW Power and C3 Group have transformed a former industrial unit on Stockholm Road into a state-of-the-art facility powered almost entirely by renewable energy.
The Investment
The £600,000 project includes:
- A 50.4kW solar array generating over 47,000 kWh of clean energy annually
- Battery storage systems to maximise solar energy usage
- Electric vehicle charging points for staff and visitors
- Rainwater harvesting for grounds maintenance
- LED lighting throughout with smart occupancy sensors
Environmental Impact
The companies estimate the building will reduce their combined carbon footprint by approximately 85% compared to their previous premises. The solar installation alone is expected to prevent around 22 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.
Industry Recognition
GW Power managing director Graham Watson said: "We wanted to practise what we preach. As an electrical contracting company specialising in renewable energy, it made perfect sense for our own headquarters to be a showcase for sustainable technology."
The project has been shortlisted for a regional Green Business Award and has attracted interest from other Hull firms looking to make similar investments.
