Thousands of families across the East Riding of Yorkshire are receiving confirmation of their children's secondary school place allocations today as part of National Offer Day. East Riding of Yorkshire Council has been processing applications since the autumn and has now finalised offers for pupils due to start Year 7 in September 2026. Letters and emails are being sent to parents and carers throughout the day, bringing an end to months of anxious waiting for many households.

The council has reported that approximately 92 per cent of families have been offered a place at their first-choice secondary school, a figure broadly in line with previous years. Among the most popular and oversubscribed schools in the region are Beverley Grammar School, Beverley High School, Driffield School, and Snaith School near Goole. Where demand has exceeded available places, allocations have been determined by the council's published admissions criteria, which prioritise factors such as the distance between a child's home and the school, sibling connections, and catchment area boundaries.

For families who have not received an offer at their preferred school, the council has outlined a clear appeals process. Parents wishing to challenge their allocation can submit an appeal in writing within 20 school days of receiving their offer. Independent appeal panels will then hear cases during May and June, with decisions communicated to families before the end of the summer term. The council's admissions team is also available to provide guidance and answer questions during what it acknowledged can be a stressful period for parents and children alike.
