P.T. Barnum Musical Starring Lee Mead Comes to Hull New Theatre
Hull New Theatre will welcome the spectacular touring production of "Barnum" this summer, with the musical starring former "Joseph" leading man Lee Mead confirmed to run from Tuesday 2 June to Saturday 6 June 2026. The show, which tells the story of legendary American showman P.T. Barnum and the creation of his famous circus, promises a dazzling blend of music, acrobatics, tightrope walking and theatrical spectacle that has made it one of the most acclaimed touring productions currently on the road.
Lee Mead, who shot to fame after winning the BBC's "Any Dream Will Do" talent search in 2007, takes on the demanding title role, which requires the actor to perform circus skills live on stage including walking a tightrope and juggling. Mead has received rave reviews for his portrayal of Barnum on the tour so far, with critics praising his vocal performance and physical commitment to the role. The production also features a large ensemble cast of circus performers, singers and dancers who bring the world of the big top to life with breathtaking routines throughout the show.
Hull New Theatre, which underwent a significant refurbishment in recent years, has a long tradition of hosting major touring musicals and is one of the largest and most popular receiving theatres in the north of England. The venue's programme for 2026 also includes productions of "Wicked," "The Phantom of the Opera" and "Grease," cementing Hull's position as a major destination for touring theatre. Hull Theatres manager Kate Baxter said: "Barnum is one of those shows that has audiences talking for weeks afterwards. The combination of a fantastic score, Lee Mead's star quality and genuinely jaw-dropping circus acts makes it an unmissable night out."
