8 WEDDINGS FEATURE DNfourteen OCTOBER 2012 Autumn Weddings Tis month we have a wide range of advertisers promoting their services and products to help you if you are planning a forthcoming big day. Good luck to any brides who are getting married in the coming months. I love Autumn weddings, they are stereotypically based around warm oranges, tonal browns and deep raspberry. Which to me screams a wedding full of yumminess! Tink spiced pumpkin cake topped with cinnamon frosting and home baked tarts filled to the brim with handpick blackberries, applies and rhubarb, so decadent. You could try chocolate apples as favours, a crisp apple dunked in rich belgian chocolate decorated with cranberries, macadamias and swirled white chocolate makes a divine favour. Te apples cored, holding warm apple juice with cinnamon sticks or mulled wine? Genius! Kids will love them too! Nothing screams homely more than a bounty of homegrown goods, so why not set up our entrance with a selection of your finest produce? Tese could possibly set the mood for your meal too. I love hand painted wine glasses, not only are they really practical but they could double up as favours too. Get yourself down to hobbycraf for some glass work pens and I know for a fact ASDA sell wine glasses for 50p a pop. Tey are definitely the sort of favour that would be kept in that special glass cupboard for display purposes. We all know gorgeous leaves are associated with autumn so why not decorate your cake with some cut from fondant? You could even crush beautiful coloured leaves for confetti instead of paper or flowers. Te world is your oyster! I can recommend the Wedding Fair at Beverley Minster on 20th October, it’s the biggest and best in East Yorkshire - If any readers can make it please do say hello - I look forward to meeting you. Place a digit from 1 to 9 in each empty cell so every row, every column, and every 3 x 3 box contains the digits 1 to 9. Solutions will be printed in next months issue. Last Months Solutions The Alex Puzzle Alex is stranded on an island covered in forest. One day, when the wind is blowing from the west, lightning strikes the west end of the island and ignites the forest. The fire is very violent, burning everything in its path, and without intervention the fire will burn the whole island, killing Alex in the process. There are cliffs around the island, so he cannot jump off. How can the Alex survive the fire? (There are no buckets or any other means to put out the fire) Answer: Alex picks up a piece of wood and lights it from the fire on the west end of the island. He then quickly carries it near the east end of he island and starts a new fire. The wind will cause that fire to burn out the eastern end and he can then shelter in the burnt area.

Follow us on - home baking depot Open: Mon to Fri 9.30am - 4.30pm Sat: 10.30 - 4.30pm CHRISTMAS IS COMING... Well, Christmas is fast approaching and we hope to bring you lots of great and original ideas for presents in our Countdown to Christmas feature that we are running from now until the December issue. We all know it’s difficult to buy presents, but who is best? Men or Women? Research reveals that men are just as likely to be presented with unwanted gifs such as hair dye, male make-up and car vacuums, with 10% of men polled saying they will sell unwanted gifs on e-Bay. Women are not perfect present buyers either. Tey make exactly the same mistakes as men. Research is the simple knack to buying great gifs. Tink about things your partner buys for his or herself, as well as their personal style, hobbies and interests. If you pay attention, it becomes obvious. Guessing causes the problems, and choosing gifs just because you like them is a no-no. Your own taste is irrelevant. Ask friends and family for hints and advice. In a recession, spending money on an appropriate and appreciated present is a sound financial transaction. Te handbag your partner has been dreaming about for months, or a rare graphic novel by his favourite artist, is the way to go. In this climate, there’s an argument for buying people things they need, as opposed to things they want. Treats like a side of salmon or bottle of champagne may work well for friends or family. Unless someone expressly asks for it, kitchen or household equipment is best avoided. Asking someone outright what they want is a “last resort”. Remember getting a gif wrong leaves both you and the recipient in an awkward position. Getting it right on the other hand, and knowing how delighted your loved ones are with the gifs you’ve chosen, is a fabulous feeling. Just check out the feature in the magazine we have some fantastic shops and businesses right here on our doorstep offering a multitude of gifs that will keep the whole family happy this Christmas. Please mention the DNfourteen Magazine when you are buying from our advertisers they need to know that their advertising is working. Happy and successful shopping!
