Technology News Dec 2025 / Jan 2026 Get Your Business Noticed Across the UK, more schools are beginning to explore how immersive technologies can support learning, build confidence and bring lessons to life. With children growing up in a world where digital tools sit alongside traditional play, many teachers are now looking for innovative ways to engage pupils and enrich the classroom experience. Here in Hull, Highlands Primary School is taking a fantastic step forward by becoming one of the first schools in its community to introduce Virtual Reality to their school. A Community Effort Built on Shared Values Highlands’ journey into immersive learning has been made possible thanks to Councillor Garreth Byrne, whose passion for digital inclusion comes from lived experience. Growing up in a disadvantaged area of Dublin, he watched other schools gain access to PCs and the internet long before his. His first experience with technology came when Microsoft brought a single computer into his school and showed pupils how to build it an experience that sparked his curiosity and shaped his future. That memory stayed with him. Now representing one of Hull’s most disadvantaged wards, Garreth is determined to ensure young people today are not left behind as technology continues to shape the world of work. His belief is simple: the children who need access the most should be the first to receive it, not the last. When Mr Wilson at Highlands reached out with a desire to bring immersive tools into the classroom, the vision aligned perfectly. And after seeing the creative work that Reel Creative have been delivering locally, Garreth knew the project had the community passion and expertise needed to make a real difference. Councillor Garreth Byrne says: “We should be giving the kids that are most disadvantaged access to the highest tech. If we put top tech and top learning into the hands of children who need it most, then one day those disadvantaged kids will be advantaged.” Bringing Learning to Life As part of the initiative, Reel Creative delivered a series of after-school sessions for Y5 and Y6, giving pupils a fun introduction to creative digital tools. They met Astro the robot dog and had their first experience of VR, exploring simple immersive environments that gave them an early glimpse of what’s to come. In another session, pupils designed festive scenes, added 3D characters, and used Augmented Reality to bring them to life. Watching their faces light up and the pride they had in their creations was so rewarding to see. With the VR equipment now coming into the school, Highlands can begin exploring new ways of engaging pupils, encouraging imagination, curiosity and confidence. Immersive experiences will be introduced gradually to support different learning styles and help pupils develop valuable soft skills such as teamwork, communication and problem-solving. Why It Matters Highlands isn’t replacing its existing approach to teaching it’s enhancing it. Immersive learning gives pupils fresh ways to engage with subjects, understand challenging concepts and build the future-ready skills they’ll need as they grow up. Some children learn best by seeing, some by doing, some by exploring and VR will meet them exactly where they are. Looking to the Future With Garreth’s determination, Mr Wilson’s enthusiasm and the creative and tech support of the Reel Creative team, Highlands Primary is stepping forward as a leader within its community. This project demonstrates the power of what can happen when people with shared values and a genuine passion for their community come together to create change. Highlands is showing that when creativity, community and technology unite, the future of education looks incredibly bright. House & Home A stylish kitchen doesn’t have to cost a fortune. With a few clever updates – be it affordable hardware swaps or chic cabinet upgrades – you can transform your space into something that feels polished, modern and luxe. We spoke to James Round - a local kitchen and interiors designer - to find out how to give your kitchen a refresh without blowing the budget… Small Tweaks Can Make A Big Difference “Many people assume you need a full renovation to refresh your kitchen but a few clever, budget- friendly tweaks can make a huge difference. One of my favourite approaches is to mix and match. If your carcasses are in good condition, keep them and simply upgrade what’s around them. Add new doors, change up your handles and finish off with a new worktop. It’s an easy way to achieve a high- end, bespoke look without the expensive price tag.” New Door Fronts Can Change Up A Space “If you’re working with a smaller budget, the one update I’d recommend, especially for a space that feels a bit dated, is replacing the door fronts and drawer panels. Even if the layout and carcasses Continued on Page 8 Lighting Is Transformative “Lighting can dramatically transform a kitchen and is one of the most effective ways to elevate a dated design. Layering is key – combining ambient, task, and accent lighting ensures the space is both functional and inviting. Affordable wall lights provide focused task lighting, while casting a soft, warm glow, and pendant lights over a kitchen island create a stylish focal point. We recommend designing kitchen lighting on two or three circuits with dimmable ceiling spotlights so you can adjust the setting from bright in the How to Elevate Your Kitchen Without Spending A Fortune Interior Designer James Round shares his kitchen advice... remain the same, swapping out the fronts instantly changes the personality of a space. It’s a way to go from tired to tailored without the cost and disruption of a full renovation, and it gives you a canvas to introduce colour, texture or style that better reflects your taste. For materials, finishes and colours for door fronts, solid wood or wood-effect finishes are the easiest way to add some warmth and perceived value. Painted MDF in sage, dove grey, or navy (softer hues) adds depth, while textured laminates or gloss finishes can make the kitchen feel contemporary and high-end. Subtle details like shaker-style panels or beaded edges can also lift the look without much expense. You just want to make sure you’re choosing a finish that complements the rest of your home and feels intentional.” “Sterile white kitchens are a thing of the past, so if you’re replacing door fronts, look for something that will add interest. A classic shaker style door in a matte, warm neutral, paired with brass hardware, will elevate the look and create a timeless and elegant design. If you have a kitchen island, consider complementing the neutral palette with darker doors such as dark earthy green.” CRAWFORD JOINERY TIME-SERVED JOINER ⚪25+ YEARS EXPERIENCE FREE QUOTES ⚪COTTINGHAM BASED Phone: 07764 946676 Email: crawford1919@icloud.com ALL ASPECTS OF JOINERY including: ⚪KITCHENS ⚪STAIRS ⚪FLOORS & DOORS ⚪BEDROOMS Now taking bookings for 2026 Dec 2025 / Jan 2026 Get Your Business Noticed

House & Home “A lick of paint can also breathe new life into tired units. Just make sure to clean, sand and prime properly beforehand. For extra durability, I often recommend a scratch-resistant paint like Scuff X as it stands up brilliantly in busy kitchens.” “You don’t need everything to be bespoke to feel luxurious. The trick is to keep the palette consistent and repeat key materials or colours throughout so that the kitchen feels curated rather than piecemeal.” daytime to a softer, more relaxed glow for evening entertaining.” “Lighting is going to be of the most important things you can change to create more of a high- end atmosphere, and the most inexpensive way to do this would be getting some under-cabinet LED strips which can highlight work surfaces and add depth. A note on layering light – use warm-coloured bulbs. Cool white can make a space feel clinical while warm tones add more of an inviting, bespoke quality.” The Right Worktops Matter “Solid wood worktops or butcher blocks add warmth and character, while engineered stone, quartz composite or porcelain slabs offer the look of natural stone without the full cost. For a luxurious feel, consider thicker or waterfall edges, minimal seams or a two- tone scheme with a darker island and lighter perimeter surfaces. Thoughtful lighting can also make budget-conscious surfaces feel bespoke and sophisticated.” “Worktops are another area where small choices make a big difference. You can pick up some laminate to mimic stone or timber – simply select textured finishes or panels with edge details that look more substantial. Butcher-block surfaces are also relatively inexpensive and instantly warm the kitchen. Even just extending a laminate worktop slightly beyond the cabinet base or adding a co-ordinating splashback can elevate the perceived quality of the room.” Continued on Page 10 Dec 2025 / Jan 2026 Get Your Business Noticed

House & Home Accessories Make A Huge Impact “Open shelving can make a huge impact. It creates an airy, designer look and lets you display your best pieces. Style yours with stacked crockery, a few well-worn cookbooks, a potted herb or two and some vintage glassware. Even if you have closed cupboards, consider removing one door to create a section of open shelving and make the space feel lighter and more lived-in.” Flooring Can Be Updated “Luxury vinyl tile (LVT) can mimic wood or stone beautifully and is much more affordable, perfect if you want to tie the space together. I recommend Karndean for its durability, design choice and realistic finish.” Finally, Don’t Ignore The Hardware “Hardware has the power to completely shift the perception of a kitchen, regardless of budget. Even the most straightforward and budget-friendly cabinetry can feel more bespoke when fitted with well-made handles in solid materials like brass. The key is to avoid lightweight or plated options, as these tend to feel hollow and wear poorly over time. Instead, choose hardware with a tangible weight and depth of finish as it instantly lends credibility to the design. Finishes such as burnished brass, dark brushed brass or antique bronze all introduce warmth and richness, while matt black or nickel can create a more architectural edge. Paying attention to scale and proportion also makes a big difference: larger pulls or knobs with a refined profile can bring balance to simpler doors and make the whole kitchen feel more intentional.” ACORN ROOFING & BUILDING SERVICES l NEW ROOFS l FIBRE GLASS l FLAT & FELT ROOFS l uPVC FACIAS & SOFFITS l DOMESTIC & IND. l SOLAR PANEL BIRD PROTECTION l ALL BUILDING WORKS UNDERTAKEN l INSURANCE WORK l FREE QUOTATIONS l FULLY INSURED l FAMILY BUSINESS l Proprietor: Bill Gardner “We will beat any written genuine re-roofing quote” T: 01482 501820 M: 07976 827768 E: info@acornroofinghull.co.uk www.acornroofinghull.co.uk “Open shelving can make a huge impact.” Dec 2025 / Jan 2026 Get Your Business Noticed

New Year, New You SALE starts Monday 29th December Up to 50% off 1. To Be Actually Happy Together Make sure you’re happy together, rather than just being together. “The number-one relationship goal should be for happiness with your partner,” online dating expert Cori Clark tells BeverleyMag. “Each partner should recognise what makes him or her happy and strive to find that element with the other as well as alone.” Of course, happiness is going to look different for everyone — and that’s OK. The important thing is finding what works for you and not falling into complacency. Be self-reflective every day and focus on how to make it a happy relationship. 2. To Do Something New Once A Month Adding some novelty into your relationship is a great way to keep things fresh - and it’s also a totally attainable goal. It doesn’t matter what it is, but make it new. A new restaurant, a new city, a new activity - just commit to mixing it up. “When you try new things together you are creating shared experiences that are new and exciting,” dating coach and marriage therapist Suzie Adams tells BeverleyMag. “That shared excitement is a way to have both closeness and stimulation, which is a great combination for sparking things back up.” A little change can make a big difference. 3. To Keep Remembering What You Love About One Another No matter how annoyed or angry you can be with your partner - and that’s fair, nobody’s perfect - you need to able to focus on the positive. So if your partner gets on your nerves occasionally or frustrates you, try to keep the big picture in perspective. “Researchers found that the only common trait amongst couples in long-term happy relationships was the ability to maintain positive illusions of the other,” So remind yourself why your partner, and remind yourself often. 4. To Have Regular Date Nights Date nights can make a huge difference - and they’re a totally sustainable goal. Don’t underestimate the power of setting regular time aside for just you and your partner. “This is a little cheesy, but the reality is that in long-term relationships, couples drift apart and mistake the business of taking care of a long-term relationship for romance,” York-based relationship expert Penny Jones says: “Going over bills and choosing paint colours for walls is not going to keep your relationship fresh.” It doesn’t have to be flowers and a movie just make sure it happens. 5. To Find A Way To Give Back It’s too easy to get introspective as a couple - but it’s important that you and your partner don’t exist in a bubble. That feeling when you’re so focused on yourself and each other that you can forget the world outside can be a dangerous one. Make sure you’re doing something to give back together. Find a cause you both care about to donate too or volunteer opportunities to take part in and make it a goal to help others. It’s good for you, good for others, and working together for a larger cause has a way of bringing people together. 6. Show Appreciation I don’t know how many times I say ‘Thank you,” to my girlfriend every day, but it’s a lot. And I hear it back a lot too. Making sure that neither of you feels taken for granted is a good way to keep your relationship happy and healthy. 6 Realistic Relationship Goals For 2026 Here are seven realistic goals to consider, because doing something new can totally transform your relationship Dec 2025 / Jan 2026 Get Your Business Noticed

Food & Drink Ingredients: 6 tbsp of olive oil 60g of fresh, coarse or panko breadcrumbs Salt & freshly ground black pepper 30g of finely grated pecorino cheese, plus more to serve 225g of dried rigatoni, ziti or campanelle 1 large shallot, finely chopped 1 medium head cauliflower (about 900g), sliced about 1cm thick (I like to include the leaves and stem, but that is optional) 250ml of double cream 1 tbsp of finely grated lemon zest, plus more to serve 25g of finely chopped chives Chilli flakes (optional) Method Step 1 Heat 3 tablespoons of the olive oil in a large skillet over a medium heat. Add the breadcrumbs and season with salt and pepper. Stir to coat evenly in the oil and cook, tossing occasionally, until they’re evenly toasted and golden brown, 4-6 minutes. Add half of the pecorino and toss to coat, letting the cheese melt and clump among the breadcrumbs (think granola-like clusters). Remove from the heat and transfer to a small bowl or Creamy Cauliflower Pasta with Pecorino Breadcrumbs Erkan Sahindal a fully-qualified chef and owner of Olive Tree, Beverley says: This recipe is wonderful for many reasons: a whole head of cauliflower caramelises in a pan before being simmered with cream, black pepper, pecorino cheese and a bit of lemon zest, breaking down into a special (and yes, decadent) sauce to coat the pasta shape of your choosing. It’s the pecorino breadcrumbs we’re here for and that’s okay – they’re magnificent. A crunchy, oily, salty vehicle for more cheese and much-needed texture, they’re the ideal finish to a saucy pasta such as this but don’t stop there. Use them as tiny croutons to finish a caesar salad or scatter them over the top of a pot of saucy beans. Once they’re in your life, you’ll never want to be without them. plate; set aside. Step 2 Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to the boil. Cook the pasta until al dente; save about 250ml of pasta water, then drain. Step 3 Wipe out any crumbs from the skillet and heat the remaining 3 tablespoons olive oil over a medium heat. Add the shallot and cauliflower and season with salt and plenty of pepper. Cook, tossing occasionally, until the cauliflower has completely softened and both the cauliflower and shallots are beginning to caramelise and brown, 12-15 minutes. Step 4 Add the cream and lemon zest and bring to a simmer, then let the cream reduce and thicken, 2-4 minutes. Season with salt and plenty of pepper. Step 5 Add the pasta to the cauliflower along with the remaining pecorino and 175ml of the pasta water. Cook, tossing to coat the pasta and thicken the sauce, until it’s thick and glossy and almost resembles macaroni and cheese, adding more pasta water by the tablespoon as needed, 4-6 minutes. Step 6 Remove from the heat. Divide the pasta among bowls and top with pecorino breadcrumbs, chives, more lemon zest, chilli flakes (if using) and more cheese if you like. Step 7 Serve with: Like all heavier, creamier pastas, this is especially nice with a brightly dressed leafy, herby salad. Food & Drink SUNDAY AFTERNOON MUSIC ● MERRY CHRISTMAS and A HAPPY NEW YEAR to all our Friends, Neighbours & Customers THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT IN 2025 Enjoy some Christmas Cheer around a Real Fire Ingredients: 600g runny honey 1 tsp each ground cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, allspice and ground ginger 7kg whole leg ham on the bone PARSLEY & PRALINE CRUST 3/4 cup (180ml) mead (from selected bottle shops; substitute cider) 250g caster sugar 80g unsalted butter 370g coarse stale white sourdough breadcrumbs 1/2 bunch thyme, leaves picked 2 garlic cloves, crushed 3/4 bunch each flat-leaf parsley and dill, leaves picked, finely chopped Finely grated zest of 2 lemons Method To make the glaze, combine the honey and spices in a saucepan over medium-high heat and cook, stirring continuously, for 5 minutes to develop the flavours. Remove from heat and cover to keep warm. Grease the base of a 2cm-deep medium oven tray and line with baking paper. For the parsley & praline crust, place mead and sugar in a medium deep frypan over high heat. Cook, swirling pan occasionally, for 12-15 minutes, until golden and caramelised. Pour over prepared tray and stand until cooled completely. Once cool, transfer mead mixture to a food processor and whiz to a fine powder. Meanwhile, heat the butter in a large frypan. When it begins to foam, add breadcrumbs, thyme, garlic, parsley and dill. Toss until coated in butter. Reduce heat to medium and cook, tossing frequently, for 5-6 minutes, until toasted, golden and fragrant. Season with salt flakes and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Transfer to a large oven tray, spread evenly, then cool completely. Once cooled, scatter praline and lemon zest over breadcrumb mixture and toss to combine. Season and taste, adjusting seasoning if needed; it should have a nice balance of salty and sweet. Set aside until ready to use. Preheat oven to 180°C/160°C fan-forced. From the end opposite the hock, remove skin from ham, leaving the fat in place. Cut around the hock to release the skin. Reserve skin (see note). Place ham hock on a wire rack in a large deep baking tray and brush all over with glaze. Bake, basting with glaze every 15 minutes, for 1 hour 30 minutes, or until deep golden and caramelised. Remove from oven and stand for 15 minutes, then brush again with the glaze. Scatter a thick coat of parsley & praline crust all over ham. Use your hands to press into glaze. Place on a large serving platter. Slice and serve warm or cold with any remaining glaze on the side. NOTE: You can wrap any leftover ham in the skin when storing to keep it fresh. As we step into a brandnew year, it’s the perfect moment to check your passport—make sure it has enough validity and a few blank pages left. If you’re planning to travel within Europe, doublecheck that your European Health Insurance Card hasn’t expired too. Travel is a real tonic. Whether it’s somewhere new, near or far, it gives us fresh experiences, a sense of adventure and memories that linger long after the suitcase is unpacked. And with easy journeys by rail and sea, nonflyers need not miss out. We are now entering the season for chasing the magical Northern Lights. For many, the quickest route is to fly to one of the world’s most famous viewing spots. But there is a wonderfully relaxed alternative: cruising through Norway’s winter waters, where you might witness the Lights dancing above frozen waterfalls while breathing in the crisp Arctic air. My own travels—along with those who join me—are all about ticking off life’s bucketlist moments. The world has countless wonders waiting, and so many memories just waiting to be made. Here is one such moment… A Morning I Will Never Forget. This morning, I fulfilled a lifelong wish: I saw elephants in the wild. On safari, you never know what the day will bring. Earlier in the week we had searched, but with 12,000 hectares of reserve for them to roam, they had remained elusive. The drivers split off in different directions, staying in radio contact—yet only one truck is ever allowed near the elephants at a time, with the rest kept out of sight to protect the animals. At one point, the truck ahead of us became stuck in a hole and needed pulling free—something the guide said had never happened in five years! Luckily, by the time we reached the area, the elephants were still there: six in total—five females and one male. Although the land could support more, the reserve keeps numbers low to give them space to thrive. Watching the females grazing in the open while hearing the crack of trees falling as the male moved through the bush was truly unforgettable. The moment they stepped into the undergrowth they were instantly camouflaged. We also spotted harnessed bushbuck antelope with their young—the fastest of all antelope—alongside rhinos, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, banded mongoose, oryx and even hippo. A group of young male rhinos were mockfighting, practising for the battles they will one day face when competing for females. After a hot chocolate and a quick breakfast back at the lodge, it was straight out again—this time for horse riding. I hadn’t been on a horse for 43 years, so I was a little apprehensive. Naturally, I was given the cheeky one! After nudging the man fixing the stirrups, he was placed right behind the guide to keep him in line. It was a gentle ride, and we were lucky enough to see a twodayold warthog (too quick for photos!), a white rhino with her young calf, and giraffes resting in the tall grass. A truly stunning morning. This safari in South Africa has gifted memories to treasure forever. Wildlife has always been a passion of many, but travel is so much more—history, culture, and those onceinalifetime moments sprinkled throughout. A Glimpse of Majorca’s Hidden Gem Last month I visited Majorca. Although I’ve been many times, I had never stepped inside its magnificent cathedral. What a revelation. Gaudí’s influence on the altar is extraordinary, the rose windows flood the interior with colour, and contrasting modern works by local artists add a wonderful twist. You need at least 2 hours to appreciate it fully. The highlight came as we sailed away. The view of the cathedral from the water was nothing short of breathtaking—a sight to rival the majestic Hungarian Parliament building on Budapest’s River Danube. As I write, it’s all about festive events, and there’s another one you must pop on your list: Kew Illuminated. This magical 3km trail of music, lights and seasonal displays is redesigned every year, ensuring something new and spectacular each time you visit. It’s suitable for all age groups and truly never disappoints—an enchanting way to welcome the festive season. Wishing you Season’s Greetings and every good wish for the New Year—may you enjoy your travels wherever they take you. Whether close to home or across the world, the joy is always in the experience. If you’re dreaming of getting away but are still sitting on the fence, now is the perfect time to turn those plans into reality. Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you’d like more information or would like to make a booking. River Cruising 2026 All inclusive: meals, drinks, excursions, tips & from your door… for example… 19 June 2026 - 7 nights + 1 night in Bucharest sailing the Lower Danube from £2806 03 October - River Rhone 7 nights from £2411 Great prices - past guest loyalty discounts valid!

New Year, New You Every year, I buy a stack of glossy Christmas magazines, convinced that if I set the table perfectly or buy another gingerbread-scented candle, it’ll be the most magical festive season yet. Not only that, but my family will also be kind to each other, the dogs won’t chew the baubles, and everyone will happily wear the matching jumpers I bought, just like in a John Lewis advert. Then, suddenly, it’s January. We’re hungover, financially maxed out, and supposedly “refreshed” and ready to start anew, as if the calendar flicking over to 1st January has some mystical power. It is no wonder depression spikes this time of year. (And let’s just say January isn’t called “divorce lawyer season” for nothing.) At our age, we should know better and not fall for the pressure of the season. We know the magic of Christmas doesn’t happen by itself, but each year we’re surprised by the workload and hope it will be different. And let’s be candid: many of us are tired of performing. Tired of always being the one who holds everything together, of chasing someone else’s version of success, of impressing people who aren’t that impressive themselves. If we’re really honest with ourselves, next year won’t be different or more abundant, unless we make it different. For ourselves. So, in the rush of glitter and gravy, think about something deeper than resolutions or “new year, new me” lists. When you’re deciding what matters for the year ahead, try this little inner test: does this feed my ego or my soul? Is it about how others will see me, or how I want to feel inside? If no one ever knew I’d done it, would it still matter to me? Let’s talk about Ego Goals versus Soul Goals. EGO GOALS As a money mindset mentor, I’ve spent a lot of time helping people, not just to make more money, but to define what a first-class life means to them. And most women have never thought about, or been allowed to choose, what they really want: ‘You get what you get and you don’t get upset.’ And remember SMART goals? Specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound. I’ve filled journals with pages of these types of goals. But I’m tired. They don’t motivate me anymore. Ego Goals aren’t “bad” goals. They’re just the ones we learn in motivational seminars and self-help books: l Grow a six-figure business. l Buy a better car or a bigger house. l Lose two stone before summer and fit into those jeans from 1998. l Look younger, thinner, richer, more successful, more… everything. Ego Goals usually come with a dose of comparison. You want the holiday because your business nemesis posted theirs on Facebook. You want the sixfigure business because you’ll finally feel successful. You think losing weight will give you a boost of confidence and the imposter syndrome will magically fade away. These Ego Goals leave us feeling hollow because they weren’t truly ours to begin with. But before you chuck out the journal, how about asking yourself the real question: what do I truly want next year? SOUL GOALS Soul Goals, on the other hand, feel different, and are often hard to articulate. They aren’t about impressing others, but about nourishing yourself in a deeper way. A Soul Goal might be: l To write your memoir. l To deepen friendships that actually matter. l To have more peace and less clutter in your life. l To quit a job or client who makes you feel stressed. l To finally start that painting, writing, or dance class you’ve always wanted to do. l To forgive yourself for something you’ve carried far too long. What’s the difference? Here’s a simple way to tell if a goal is soul-based or ego-based. Ask yourself: 1 Who am I doing this for? If the answer is ‘To impress my ex/husband/sister/colleagues,’ it’s probably an ego goal. 2 How will I feel if I achieve this? If the answer is ‘Relieved no one will judge me,’ that’s ego talking. If the answer is ‘Peaceful, content, more myself,’ then it’s a message from your soul. 3 What’s the energy behind it? Ego Goals feel like pushing, striving, grasping. Soul goals feel like unfolding, softening, allowing… and a little bit scary. They sound innocent enough, but soul goals aren’t always fun and motivating; they might challenge your self-perception or trigger old fears about being ‘Too big for your boots.’ Some of your goals might involve disappointing others. To have less clutter in your life might mean saying no, withdrawing your time and attention from other people’s priorities, or stepping out of the roles others created for you. Writing the book that keeps knocking on your consciousness at 3am might mean opening up some painful memories or being vulnerable with a writing group. The idea might excite and sicken you in equal measure. That’s a soul goal! And if you’ve spent your whole life helping others, living up to society’s expectations and putting your needs aside for your family, you might not even give yourself permission to dream. You don’t need to be visited by scary ghosts to change your life. You can decide that January can be a turning point to your version of a first-class life, and even if the Yorkshire puddings burn and the paper hats tear, the world will keep turning. KNOW YOUR GOALS You’ve earned the right to choose what genuinely matters, even if it disappoints others. The adverts tell us that Christmas magic comes in a shiny box. But the truth is, the real magic happens when we stop chasing what looks good on the outside and choose what feels right on the inside. This year, don’t set goals that make you smaller, quieter or more exhausted. Set goals that make you fuller, freer, more alive. If you’d like to give yourself a little ritual this January, take an hour over the Christmas period – with a glass of mulled wine in hand if you fancy – and journal a few questions: l Which moments from this year genuinely lit me up? l Which ones drained me or left me feeling resentful? l If I didn’t worry about disappointing others, what would I really want to achieve this year? l What old Ego Goals am I finally giving up for good? l What three Soul Goals could I set for the coming year that would make me feel more authentically me? I hope you get everything your heart desires under the tree, but your Soul Goals are the best gift you can give yourself, and by extension everyone around you. When you live from the inside out and give yourself permission to be joyful, rested, content and no longer scrambling to prove your worth, your presence becomes the present. Choose your Soul Goals for 2026 It’s time to swap shiny Ego Goals for nourishing Soul Goals and choose what really matters. Dec 2025 / Jan 2026 Get Your Business Noticed

REVEAL YOUR BEST SELF — SAFELY, EXPERTLY, MEDICALLY Rebekah’s Beauty Box Simple party make-up Christmas and New Year’s Eve is the perfect time of year to have some fun with make- up and create some fabulous evening looks to wow your friends.… Christmas and New Year’s Eve party make-up is often more dramatic than day to day make-up, but there is no reason to be afraid of trying out some new products. Used correctly, darker tones and more glitzy looks can enhance your natural beauty, compliment your outfit, and impress fellow party- goers. Five simple steps to create your Christmas or New Year look l Match your make-up to your outfit. When attending a Christmas party decide which dress you are going to wear before planning your make-up. For example, if choosing to wear a red dress, ensure that your lipstick is a matching tone of red. Many women will opt for black, so you can go to town on your eye and lip colours to brighten up your face to counterbalance the fact that black can be draining next to an older face. l Moisturise well and then apply a face primer to your skin. Moisturising is important all year round but particularly so in the colder months when your skin may be drier and tighter. Adding a face primer on top of moisturiser will not only give you a great base for your foundation but also help your make-up to stay looking fresh from dawn till dusk. l Christmas party make-up can allow you to try out more glam looks but I would recommend sticking to your usual foundation and face make-up routine. However, if your skin has the tendency to look washed out in the winter months add some extra blusher and maybe a sweep of bronzer to add warmth. However, don’t over-do either - blend well to keep the look subtle. Use a highlighter on your cheek and brow bones to give shape to the face and make your face look soft and dewy in evening light. l Don’t be afraid of experiment- ing with darker colours on the eyes, but be mindful of your skin tone and which colours suit you. For a sultrier evening look, apply a lighter shade to the lid and then apply a darker eye shadow into and above the natural socket line and also to the outer edges of the lid. Blend really well with a clean brush. This will give you a smoky effect – a great classic party look. Finally take a small wedge-shaped brush and push the darker colour shade along the lash line to make your lashes look thicker. l Although we are told not to have both intense eye and lip make-up, during party season you can bend the rules slightly! Ensure that you choose the right colouring to compliment your skin tone but don’t be afraid to use darker colours than usual. A statement lip colour can look particularly fabulous against a black dress. Prime the lips properly to prevent ‘bleeding’; this will also help your lipstick to last during a night of dancing! A great tip of mine is to create a lip stain with your lipstick by rubbing it into your lips with a finger. Then apply a couple more coats using a lip brush, blotting in between. Finish with gloss for an extra special festive look. Dec 2025 / Jan 2026 Get Your Business Noticed

The Wax Child by Olga Ravn Based on an infamous 17th-century Danish witch trial, The Wax Child is the extraordinary novel from Olga Ravn. It was a pitch-black night in 1620 when Christenze Krukow made the wax child, melting down beeswax and setting it in the image of a small human. For days, she carried it tucked beneath her arm, shaping it with the warmth of her flesh, giving it life. She fashioned eyes and ears that cannot open, and yet – it watches and listens. It looks on as Christenze is haunted by rumour, it hears what people say. In time, it begins to understand that once a suspicion of witchcraft has taken hold, it can prove impossible to shake. The Eleventh Hour by Salman Rushdie Two quarrelsome old men in Chennai, India, experience private tragedy against the backdrop of national calamity. A magical musician is unhappily married to a multibillionaire. In an English university college, an undead academic asks a lonely student to avenge his former tormentor. These five new works of fiction move between the three countries that Rushdie has called home – India, England and America – and explore what it means to approach the eleventh hour of life. They are the reckoning with mortality that we all must one day make and speak deeply to what the author has come from and through. Do we accommodate ourselves to death, or rail against it? How can we bid farewell to the places that we have made home? How do we achieve fulfilment with our lives if we don’t know the end of our own stories? The Eleventh Hour ponders life and death, legacy and identity with the insight and imagination that have made Rushdie one of the most celebrated writers of our time. The Four Spent The Day Together by Chris Kraus On the Iron Range of northern Shadow Ticket by Thomas Pynchon In Milwaukee 1932, private eye Hicks McTaggart thinks he’s found job security until he gets sent out on what should be a routine case, locating and bringing back the heiress of a Wisconsin cheese fortune who’s decided to go wandering. Before he knows it, he’s on a transoceanic liner, ending up in Hungary where there’s no shoreline, a language from some other planet and of course, no sign of the runaway heiress he’s supposed to be chasing. By the time Hicks catches up with her he will find himself entangled with Nazis, Soviet agents, British counterspies, swing musicians, practitioners of the paranormal, outlaw motorcyclists, and the troubles that come with each of them, none of which Hicks is qualified to deal with. Surrounded by history he has no grasp on, the only bright side for Hicks is it’s the dawn of the Big Band Era and, as it happens, he’s a pretty good dancer. Whether this will be enough to allow him to somehow Lindy-hop his way back again to Milwaukee and the normal world is another question. The Land In Winter by Andrew Miller December 1962, the West Country. Local doctor Eric Parry, mulling secrets, sets out on his rounds, while his pregnant wife sleeps in their warm cottage. Across the field, funny, troubled Rita Simmons is also asleep, her head full of images of a past life her husband prefers to ignore. He’s been up for hours, tending to the needs of the small dairy farm where he hoped to create a new version of himself, a project that’s already faltering. But when the ordinary cold of an English December gives way to violent blizzards, the two couples find their lives beginning to unravel. Where do you hide when you can’t leave home? And where, in a frozen world, can you run to? Minnesota, at the end of the last decade, three teenagers shot and killed an older acquaintance after spending the day with him. In a cold, depressed town, on the fringes of a so-called ‘meth community’, the three young people were quickly arrested and imprisoned. At the time of the murder, Catt Greene and her husband, Paul Garcia, are living nearby in a house they’d bought years earlier as a summer escape from LA. Locked into a period of personal turmoil, moving between LA and Minnesota – between the art world and the urban poverty of Paul’s addiction therapist jobs, the rural poverty of the icy, depressed Iron Range – Catt turns away from her own life and towards the murder case, which soon becomes an obsession. In her attempt to pierce through the brutality and despair surrounding the murder and to understand the teenagers’ lives, Catt is led back to the idiosyncratic, aspirational lives of her parents in the working-class Bronx and small-town, blue-collar Milford, Connecticut. Heart the Lover by Lily King From the award-winning, New York Times-bestselling author of Writers & Lovers and Euphoria comes this fresh read. Its narrator understands good love stories – their secrets, their highs and free falls. But her greatest love story, the one she lived, never followed the rules. She was in her senior year of college when star students Sam and Yash swept her into an intoxicating world of academic fervour, rapid-fire banter and raucous card games. Their lives became quickly intertwined – with friendship but also with unpredictable passions and the intimations of first love. Decades later, she is a successful writer, living a comfortable life with her husband and children, when a surprise visit brings the past crashing into the present, forcing her to confront the decisions and deceptions of her youth. Manners & Mischief by Anne Glenconner Lady Anne Glenconner, lady-in- waiting to Princess Margaret and maid of honour at the Queen’s Coronation, returns with a rich, sparkling memoir told through an A to Z of her life. From affairs of the heart and Basil’s Bar to dinners with the King and the art of entertaining each chapter reveals a vivid moment of joy, mischief or resilience. Whether offering tips on getting out of the bath with grace, or how to lose at cards with Princess Margaret, she shares wisdom and memory in equal measure. This book is a love letter to a disappearing world and a reminder that life, at any age, should be faced with laughter, a stiff upper lip, and the odd vodka tonic. BOOK OF THE MONTH The Adventures of Foggy Goggles by Gavin Wynne This fantastic children’s book is the debut work of Beverley writer Gavin Wynne. The Adventures of Foggy Goggles (where the everyday dives headfirst into the extraordinary) begins as a normal day at the swimming pool - but quickly turns into a wild underwater odyssey, plunging Foggy into a wonderfully weird world where nothing is quite what it seems. Is it her goggles or is it her imagination? You’ll have to buy the book to find out! All of the characters are brought to life by the incredibly talented illustrator, Molly Paveley - her amazing artwork makes this book a visual masterpiece that will inspire the young readers to read this over and over again. I’m pleased to bring you the latest update from my office on the work we are doing to improve community safety in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Thank you to everyone who completed my Annual Police and Crime Plan Survey over the summer – the highest response ever to my office with almost 3,600 people providing their views. It is really important for me to understand the issues that are affecting our communities so we can use our resources effectively to ensure everyone feels safe, both residents and visitors. We will be publishing the results of the survey in the coming weeks on our website. From our joint work around the Home Office Safer Streets Summer initiative, to organisations taking advantage of my Community Safety Fund, we’ve been creating lots of opportunities for some great partnership work over the past few months in and around the region. I’m looking forward to seeing this continue as we move into the winter months, where there will be a number of further initiatives. Please follow us on social media and subscribe to My Community Alert to be notified of the work we are doing in your area and get involved in making a difference. YOUR POLICE AND CRIME COMMISSIONER JONATHAN EVISON I’m proud to share the 2024/25 Annual Report from my office. In the last year, we’ve worked together to maintain record police officer numbers, invested in crime prevention, and helped to strengthen community partnerships across the region. From supporting youth initiatives to launching new road safety grants, my focus in the year remained on safer streets and stronger communities. Read the full report and explore our work here - www. humberside-pcc.gov.uk/who-we-are/our-work Thank you for your continued support. BUILDING ON SUCCESS: A YEAR OF PROGRESS AND PARTNERSHIP OUTCOME OF BEVERLEY POLICE STATION RELOCATION PROPOSAL Thank you to everyone who completed the recent survey regarding a proposal to relocate Beverley Police Station from New Walk to the County Hall. The consultation, conducted via My Community Alert and supported by local outreach and social media, received 634 responses with some key findings below. 60% of respondents did not support the move, citing concerns about accessibility, parking, and response times. Respondents emphasised the importance of: • Accessible buildings • Nearby parking • Confidential spaces to speak with police staff Respondents felt County Hall would: • Be harder to access • Increase traffic congestion • Offer less visibility and slower response times due to its location and surrounding infrastructure I remain committed to listening to residents and with the outcome of the survey in mind, I will now be going back to the Humberside Police Estates Department to ask for further options that will be more aligned to your views. Policing will continue as usual for the time being, operating from the current location until further solutions are brought for consideration.

29 We have recently refreshed our ongoing campaign aimed at preventing domestic abuse by partnering with local football clubs. In partnership with Hull City, we are displaying awareness messages in the stadium; targeted at those who commit domestic abuse and encouraging them to face up to their actions, whilst also providing routes to support for those affected by abusive behaviour. We are delighted to be working in collaboration with our local football clubs to raise awareness of domestic abuse and encourage more open conversations about harm within the home. We also recognise that for many people living in our rural areas and experiencing harm at home, the problem can be compounded by isolation and limited access to services. Domestic abuse can often be hidden within our rural communities, with perpetrators using geographic isolation as a tool of control, cutting victims off from friends, family, and essential services. Support services are ready to help those who need to change their harmful behaviours to get help to stop causing harm. Local support is also available for anyone experiencing hurt at home – please always remember that you are not alone, and help is available. If you need help to stop hurting someone, please visit www.helptostop.online If you are experiencing hurt at home, services are ready to listen. Please visit www.youarenotalone.online There is no place for violence in any of our communities. Local residents across East Yorkshire are playing a vital role in shaping ethical policing through our volunteering schemes. These initiatives empower volunteers to scrutinise police practices, ensuring transparency and fairness in areas such as the use of force, stop and search, hate crime response, and custody procedures. Panels like the Hate Crime Scrutiny Panel and the Independent Custody Visiting Scheme allow individuals from diverse backgrounds - including those with lived experience - to provide critical insights and recommendations that influence real change within Humberside Police. Volunteering with our office is a chance to make a meaningful impact on community safety and justice. Whether it’s through unannounced custody visits or contributing to the Domestic Abuse and Violence Against Women and Girls Scrutiny Panel, volunteers help uphold ethical standards and foster trust between the police and the public. Those interested in joining these efforts can learn more and express interest by visiting the Humberside PCC volunteering page on our website. Its purpose is to keep children safe by developing their understanding of risks, consequences and the law, and to develop their resilience and ability to help and support each other. The free resources within Pol-Ed include lesson plans and schemes of work, although lessons can be used to suit schools’ needs. Pol-Ed resources are split into 4 topic areas covering age-appropriate interactions with people and situations a child may encounter both in and out of school. We are planning to promote the resource to schools in the near future so please look out for further details.

Motoring is whine from the electric motors if you demand power, but this fades away again, and in terms of off-road capability, the BEV matches the conventional Hilux. Multi-Terrain Select has an Auto setting that reacts to different surfaces, or you can pre-select Rock, Sand, Mud and Dirt modes. The Mogul setting emulates low-range gears – useful because it limits power and smooths the transmission to keep you moving. Drive modes are selected via a rotary dial on the centre console, and this controller is also used to Long-served Hilux name is looking to the future with a new version pow- ered by electricity! YOU’D be forgiven for not recognis- ing the vehicle in these pictures. That’s because, instead of following the traditional procedure and revealing images of the new Hilux weeks or even months ahead of first drives, Toyota has chosen to roll it all into one. But not only has the dependable Hilux been given a new look inside and out, there are some fairly extensive changes under the skin, too. And the main one of these is that, for the first time ever, it’s avail- able with a zeroemission electric powertrain. Based on a re-engineered ladder frame chassis, the drive battery is located between the frame rails. This does mean a compromise in terms of battery size, though, with a modest 56.2kWh pack fitted. This is connected to two electric motors – one on each axle – so the Hilux BEV has permanent four- wheel drive. However, there are no diff locks or low-range gears included. Instead, a system called Multi-Terrain Select adjusts the response of the electric motors to the conditions, either automatically or by selecting one of five modes New Battery-powered Toyota Pick-Up for different surfaces. The response of the powertrain is good from lower speeds. There’s a combined output of 193bhp, while Toyota quotes a torque figure of 206Nm for the front electric mo- tor and 269Nm for the rear. That’s not enough for the Hilux to deliver a rearbiased power delivery; it’s set up to understeer to keep you out of trouble. Swapping diesel for electricity is a step change. The lack of noise from under the bonnet means that all other sounds are amplified, but because the Hilux BEV is well built, it does a good job of cruising in refined silence, while a revised suspension layout boosts comfort significantly over the diesel. Toyota has fitted the latest Hilux with electric power steering, and it needs a lot of arm twirling to go from lock to lock, which can be a chore at lower speeds. However, when we tried the truck off road it didn’t seem to be quite such a big issue. The quiet running of the Hilux BEV adds an eerie quality to off-road driving, with the main sounds being the tyres crunching over whatever you’re traversing. It means the dashboard looks a lot cleaner, and the squared-off design of the layout has a rugged appearance. The 12.3-inch digital driver’s display contains plenty of info, and there’s another 12.3-inch screen for the main infotainment. Thank- fully, Toyota has retained physical controls for the climate system, although the LCD displays look a little old next to the high-resolution screen set above. Locating the drive battery within the chassis means that the Hilux BEV doesn’t suffer from any com- promises in terms of the size of its load bed. But the sting in the tail is a reduction in payload and towing weights. There’s a maximum payload of 715kg, well under the one-tonne requirement for light commercial vehicles in the UK. Tow- ing is compromised, too. While the diesel Hilux can haul 3.5 tonnes, the BEV is limited to 1,600kg. However, as with the short driving range, Toyota claims that this is more than enough capacity for the type of users it’s targeting with the electric model. The other question mark is over price. Toyota hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but with the Isuzu D-Max Electric starting at around £60,000, that’s a target the Hilux BEV is aiming to beat. As I write this winter article, the first cold snap is forecast with snow expected in some parts of the country. A cold snap is welcome in some respects, but not in others! It will kill off some nasty bugs, but will create a dash to bring things in from the garden or protect vulnerable plants in situ. Many of my house plants have enjoyed a long spell outdoors, but are once again in the comfort of our house. Shortly we shall be thinking about bringing more plant material indoors including holly, ivy and mistletoe. Mistletoe: There is a small, ancient market town in Worcestershire situated in the centre of apple, pear and plum orchards called the ‘Mistletoe Capital of England’. It is Tenbury Wells and is regarded as ‘The Town in the Orchard’. The apple trees provide a perfect home for mistletoe, and at the end of November and early December Tenbury Wells hosts the Mistletoe Auctions as it has done for the past 150 years. Farmers and landowners gather their crops of mistletoe and holly from their orchards and florists, garden centre owners, market traders, etc., flock to the auctions to bid for the greenery. Following this the town has a ‘Mistletoe Festival’ on the first Saturday in December. Fingers crossed that the town is not stricken by yet another flooding of their river Teme as last year. The festival has a tradition druid ceremony of crowning the Mistletoe Queen and newly cut mistletoe is blessed with beer and apple juice! No doubt much of both of these are consumed getting the festive merry-making season off to a good start. Christmas trees: These are ready for sale now, but the dry summer has led to their being of poor quality with fewer available. As a consequence, we can expect a price rise. Trees which do not drop their needles such as Nordmann Fir are now more popular than the once classic Christmas fir – Norway Spruce. If you have a ‘no root’ tree you must treat it like a cut flower, standing it in clean, fresh water. Looking ahead to the end of the festive season, there is the usual debate as to when to remove the tree and greenery from the house. Even today, superstitions abound. It is deemed unlucky if you do not get them out by Twelfth Night, but that begs the question as to whether Twelfth Night is the 5th or 6th of January. In medieval times decorations remained until Candlemas, 2nd February. During lockdown we kept ours up until then to cheer us up, and English Heritage did the same in some of their properties to help raise the spirits of those who could venture out in those stricken times. Wassail: Another tradition which concludes this festive season with a bang is the Wassail when, once again, we see the importance of fruit orchards. This Anglo-Saxon celebration is a blessing of the fruit orchards to ensure a good harvest. This is accompanied with music, singing and dancing. The National Trust host these al events in late December when revellers process to an orchard and find the oldest tree, placing pieces of toast on its branches. The robins are attracted to the toast and are reckoned to be guardians of the orchard. In order to awaken the trees from their winters slumbers the revellers clatter pots and pans to ward off evil spirits. They pour cider around the roots of the tree and themselves enjoy the Wassail drink which is made from cider or local ale blended with honey and spices. IN THE GARDEN Continuing the theme of hollies, of which there are over 400 species worldwide, our common holly Ilex aquifolium is one of a handful of evergreens native to Britain. Many cultivars have been developed giving us a wide choice of leaf forms, growth habits and leaf colour. Ilex tends to be tolerant of urban pollution, will grow in a shady position, and adapts to most soils. Not all holly berries are red. ‘Bacciflava’ cultivar has yellow berries and ‘Amber’ has apricot coloured berries. Not all hollies are evergreen and at this time of year we are familiar with the one which is deciduous and only the berries remain on the stem. This is I.verticillata (Winterberry) which many of us purchase at Christmas to liven up a display of greenery in a floral arrangement. It originates from North America, but has been grown in Britain since the 18th century. The berries were used for medicinal purposes, and sometimes called Feverbush, by Native Americans. There are slow- growing, mound-forming cultivars of Ilex, and a small one, perfect for the rock garden, is Japanese Holly I.crenata. Wreaths of holly were long believed to confer a special blessing on the home. If you have access to several different varieties, sprigs of holly alone will make a beautiful wreath with no need for ribbons, baubles or other greenery. Ilex ‘Golden King’ and I.‘Lawsonia’ are easy to work with as they are spine free; but if you do wish to add another shape for contrast a couple of suggestions are leaves of Ivy, Hedera helix ‘Glacier’ with its silver-grey mottling and cream leaf edges, and Helix ‘Parsley Crested’ with tightly waved leaf margins and long trailing stems which are good for winding in with your holly. Mahonia x media ‘Charity’ is continuing to flourish and once again rewarding us with even more beautiful yellow flower spikes than last year. It seem so cheerful and lifts the spirits on a cold, wet winter’s day along with the glowing yellow/pink leaves of the hydrangea. Some pots will need to be raised just above the ground in order to stop them cracking in the frost and also to ensure good drainage. Some may even need to be wrapped up in bubble wrap or environmesh. Dahlias must be dug up and dried, then stored in a cool, dry frost-free place. I put mine in thick brown papers bags or carriers, but some people prefer to put them in trays with dry sand or sawdust. It is important to pack them so that there is good air circulation. I have tried leaving them in the ground, but regrettably have lost some of my favourites either to the cold by not giving them enough insulation, or to the slugs. The agapanthus needs protection and I have found success in piling thick bundles of fern leaves on top of them. Tidying up the garden for winter can be a cold or wet business, but a therapeutic one. Weeding thoroughly and pruning shrubs will prove rewarding when you can clearly see the winter berries of Skimmia, Pyracantha and Cotoneaster, for instance, and enjoy the perfume of the winter flowering plants such as Daphne, Sarcoccoca and Viburnum. Perennials and shrubs will benefit from a layer of compost and manure along with a helping of super- phosphate fertiliser gently forked in after you have thoroughly weeded. The fertiliser will contribute to strong flowers next year. The garden indoors: Having brought my house plants back indoors for the winter, some need re- potting. They flourish better in the low light of winter when positioned correctly. Snake plant or Mother- in-law’s tongue, Kentia palm, Swiss cheese plant, Prayer plant and Spider plant are among those which prefer to be out of the direct sun. Heart leaf plant (Philodendron scandens) and Golden Pothos (Epripremnum scandens) are dangling house plants happy in reduced light intensity. The seasonal period can be celebrated with a range of colourful and perfumed house plants. These include Christmas cactus, Cyclamen, Amaryllis and Poinsettia which will cheer us with their radiant colours while indoor hyacinths and Paper-white Narcissi will fill the air with their intense perfumes. No house plant with relish a draughty corner or fluctuating temperatures. They do not need feeding in the winter, but those with flowers, particularly Cyclamen, need dead-heading to restrict grey mould. Azaleas are best watered with rain water as in many areas tap water is too hard for them. The Last Word FIONA’S FOOD FOR THOUGHT By Fiona Dwyer - Journalist, PR Consultant, DIY Your Biz PR Course Creator, Wife and Mum to two teenagers! The Countdown Has Begun Depending on which survey you read, anything from a third to almost all of us feel stressed in the run-up to Christmas. And it’s hardly surprising. The cost of presents, food and all the little extras can easily get out of hand. There’s pressure to create the “perfect” Christmas, navigate tricky family dynamics, host guests and socialise when you’re already exhausted. Then, of course, there’s the planning, the cooking, the endless shopping lists… it’s a lot for anyone. But remember, Christmas isn’t meant to be a competition. It doesn’t need to be flashy or flawless. It isn’t measured by the size of your tree, the number of presents or whether your lights could land a plane. At its heart, Christmas is about peace, joy and the simplest of moments - a baby born in a stable. And if you think back to your favourite Christmas memories, the best bits are usually the simplest - laughing with family, playing board games, doing the Christmas jigsaw or enjoying a mince pie with friends. Children remember how you made them feel. The time you spent with them. The silliness. The little traditions. So, if your turkey’s a bit dry or your wrapping isn’t as tidy as you think it should be (like mine!), it really doesn’t matter. The people who love you aren’t keeping score. Relax. Laugh. Let go of the pressure. Enjoy the day for what it is, not what you think it should be. A Blank Page for January I love January. It’s like opening a brand new notebook. The question is: what do you want to write in it? Do you want to feel healthier, lose a bit of weight or add more physical activity into your week? Maybe you want to spend more time with your family or finally learn to say “no” to things that leave you exhausted. Whatever it is, don’t just dream it, plan it. Swap “I’ll get fit” for something specific like “I’ll walk three times a week.” Replace “I’ll eat better” with “I’ll cook one new healthy recipe every weekend.” Small steps add up - and if you slip, just turn the page and start again. That’s the beauty of a blank notebook! Every page offers us all another chance!! The Great January Clear Out The moment the decorations come down, I always seem to develop an urge to declutter. Suddenly, I’m eyeing up that drawer full of takeaway menus from places that shut five years ago or the cupboard full of gadgets I was definitely going to use but never did. Decluttering isn’t just about tidying, it about making space for the year ahead, not just in your house but in your mind. Out go the clothes I’m never going to wear and the random “stuff” that’s gathered over time. In comes a sense of lightness, clarity and oh, so many possibilities. Let’s face it, there’s nothing quite as satisfying as dropping off bags at the charity shop or taking rubbish to the tip. The key is getting it all out of the house as soon as you’ve bagged it up! It’s so good for your mental health too! It’s impossible to relax when there’s clutter around you. This way, you’re starting the year as you mean to go on – with a home and mind that feels stress-free with room to breathe again. And finally…… thank you so much for reading my column and for all the kind messages you send in - they mean more than you know. Here’s wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Have a wonderful time - and stay safe. Fiona x Twitter: @fionadwyer • Facebook: Fiona Dwyer PR Happy Christmas Dec 2025 / Jan 2026 Get Your Business Noticed
